GRE Services, in collaboration with Oldridge Electrical, completed the electrical and mechanical fitout for this award-winning building. We designed and installed specialized lighting for various workspaces, including workshops, teaching areas, and a performing arts space, as well as feature lighting to accentuate the use of LVL timber in the main atrium.

This building is a world-first innovation, showcasing both the pioneering use of wood in multi-storied structures and advanced earthquake-resistant engineering technology. It represents a new era for the arts, offering a purpose-built environment for art education with cutting-edge technology and dedicated art and media workspaces.

As New Zealand’s Landmark Timber Structural Demonstration Building, it provides a vibrant and inspiring setting for provincial tertiary learning, serves as a valuable economic asset, and promotes sustainability within the New Zealand timber industry. The design approach and structural innovations introduced in this project are reshaping how the New Zealand Government, the construction industry, and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority approach the reconstruction of Christchurch following the 2011 earthquake.
