Cawthron’s Glenhaven research and education facility has recently been given a new lease of life with a purpose built laboratory wing and an adjoining two story office wing as well as an upgraded workshop area.

Lighting and power systems were designed and installed by Glenn Roberts Electrical to meet a strict brief regarding sustainability and energy efficiency. This was achieved using high output IP65 T5 fluorescent fittings in both the dry and wet lab areas and a combination of T5 fluorescent and LED light fittings throughout the access ways, amenities and office areas.

Due to the construction of the Lab wing, all wiring has been installed in plastic conduit and on cable trays along the access ways for future power and lighting reticulation. The cable trays have also been used to mount the LED and Emergency Lighting along the main Lab corridor. LED lights have also been installed in the carparking area.

Overall the outcome is one of aesthetics, whilst also producing functional lighting for all working areas. Low maintenance and running costs of the LED and T5 fluorescent lights will ensure this facility operates efficiently long into the future.
